Services for Aging AdultsAging
The Montgomery County Office of Aging and Adult Services is responsible for planning, coordinating and monitoring services for county residents age 60 and older. As the area agency on aging, AAS is part of a state and national network of agencies established to aid older adults by offering a wide range of services.
 
Information & Referral (I & R)
Information regarding services and benefit programs. This service attempts to link consumers with appropriate resources. I & R is available by calling or visiting any of the agency's five branch offices.
 
Comprehensive Geriatric Assessment
Consumers referred to AAS are given a comprehensive geriatric assessment in order to determine whether or not that person is best served in a  long-term care facility or in his or her own home with community based services.
 
Community Services*
Provides casework support to plan and monitor consumer services to meet their individual needs.
  • Care Management - Casework services and care planning provided to consumers.
  • OPTIONS Program - The OPTIONS program provides assessment, care management and in-home services for aging and disabled adults who are experiencing some degree of frailty in their physical or mental health status.
  • Family Caregiver Support Program - Assists caregivers through a program that reimburses them for supplies and services.
  • PDA Waiver Program - provides intensive in-home services to consumers meeting financial and medical guidelines.
  • Nursing Home Transition (NHT) - Counsels and supports consumers and families in transitioning individuals into community living arrangements from nursing home care whenever possible.
Long Term Care Services
  • Domiciliary Care - Protected living arrangements for those who qualify.
  • Pre-Admission Assessments - Determination of the most appropriate level of long-term care options.
Elder Care Concerns
  • Ombudsman Services - Investigates complaints and conflicts for consumers of long-term care.
  • Protective Services - Intervenes in cases of abuse, neglect, exploitation and abandonment for those at risk over age 60.  To report a suspected case of elder abuse, call the ELDER ABUSE HOTLINE at 1-800-734-2020.
Home & Community Based Services
The services listed are contracted out through the Montgomery County Office of Aging and Adult Services (AAS).
 
  • Personal Care & Home Support - Provides hands-on assistance to allow aging individuals to remain independent in their homes.
  • Adult Day Services - Offers a supervised setting for disabled persons during the day, including providing meals and activities.
  • Home Delivered Meals - For those who are homebound and unable to cook for themselves, one or two hot and cold meals are provided.
  • Counseling Program - These programs are available to help consumers and their families cope with difficult situations.
  • Senior Center Services - These services help older adults to stay involved and independent by providing a hot noon meal and daily activities and programs.
  • Housing Services - Provides housing assistance to individuals and families throughout Montgomery County.
  • Transportation Services - Available to older adults and low-income individuals who meet some basic guidelines.  To register, call (215) 542-RIDE.
  • Volunteer Opportunities - These opportunities exist within community placements throughout Montgomery County.
